My sister-in-laws husband`s funeral was this`morning.
The casket was closed. It was open last night for the visitation, as my MIL went, and told me about it.
I ask why the casket was closed today, and the son told us that he had fluid all over the casket, all over him. It was pretty bad, in order for them to have to close the casket, right?
The sister-in-law doesn`t want to say anything, but the MIL wants to find out what exactly happened, and why the casket had to remain closed through the funeral.
I heard that if they don`t do their job right, then the deceased will leak through the holes of his body, and make a mess, like today.
Is this a common situation or is this something else?
My cousin died a year ago. Before passing away, her body retained fluids. While in her casket, underneath her was plastic lined all the way up the sides because they said her body would continue to "weep" out the liquid. Maybe a mortician can answer your question, but I do know that was our situation with my cousin, so I have heard of it before. So sorry for your loss.

Hmmm...They say that he was retaining fluid around the lungs before he died, but don`t the mortician people drain all that out, and put in the imbalmbing stuff? They are suppose to like stuff the holes, so this won` happen. Makes us think that someone was wanting to "cut some corners" to save money.
Meanwhile, the SIL and the rest of the family is in tears because the casket is closed. WTH?
My novice understanding is that when embalmed, cotton is placed as a plug in the orifices (vagina and anus - CD will probably censor those 2 words) to stop weeping.
I would think more along the lines of someone forgot to add the cotton, not didn't add the cotton to save money since cotton is low cost.
