I did come across a site, probably last year that gave stats on CDs top posters, there screen names and the amount of daily posts, so I do believe anything you put on the internet is out there for anyone to access, now whether it can be directly linked with your actual name, I'm not certain about, but who knows?
I know there's one site in particular getting a lot of interest, lately:

Spokeo (I had the link posted, but a tagline of "people search! find people now!" showed up, instead. 0.o )

Their info is often inaccurate a/o outdated (I am apparently still living in my old house, and have no children, but they have a picture of the house I AM living in posted, and it's worth over $1 mil ), but they do gather pictures and other information from facebook, myspace, and other social networks, as well as any other places you've posted information on the internet, or Intelius, online white pages, etc.

You can opt to have your profile removed, but there's a catch: you have to sign up, which validates your email address, and you can only remove 1 or 2 profiles per email address. There are often multiple profiles on people. I have two that I know of, one with my married name, and one with my maiden name.

Yeah, some of the stuff my family members have found is funny. My Mom's profile has her living in the correct house, but lists her and my Dad as her parents. M'kay...They have no kids, so I had to break it to my brother that we don't exist.

My Uncle's household consists of him, his wife, and his ex-wife, and then lists his wife as his mother, as well. According to the picture, his house is across the street from the one he just sold, but they got that he has an RV right. But he's listed as having kids. He doesn't. He must have stolen my son.

My brother is an avid competitive cyclist and has about 40 hobbies, all community-based charitable stuff. I have 2 hobbies: "shopping" and "retail shopping".

My ex-husband is also listed as living in our old house, but doesn't list me in the household, even though I supposedly live there, too, but they got the pic of the right house. His middle name is listed as "Misty". That made my day.

According to that site, I dont exist, my husband has in his household an uncle, his dad, and our daughter.
The dad passed away, uncle lives in Kentucky, he has NEVER lived in Florida. The only thing they got right was our child.

I see they've updated my profile since I last looked, a few weeks back. I have my married name, again (I had my maiden name profile deleted), and there's a new picture of my house, with my car clearly shown in the driveway.

As far as I know, I do not have any hispanic, asian, or african american in my blood, but they say I have quite a bit. I have blonde hair and blue eyes.

I am shown as well off, and it has my work profile listed as primarily management (true) and construction (not true).

I still have no kids. Where's my son?

At least you exist!!!!!!
Looking some more at the data, according to the site, our home is listed as a business, has no air, no heat, listed at under 200k, no children, and 5 people live here.
Looking at the streetview thing, they have the neighbors driveway shown, which is about a 1/4 mile off....where do they get this stuff?????
Oh yeah, they list my husband as single, wth?????

At least he's not hiding his ex-wife in the closet as my uncle apparently is. When his wife finds out she's gonna be ticked!

Five people in your home? Maybe you might want to check for squatters. They might be running some kind of business in your basement or attic. There is a mystery second person in my household. Hey...maybe it's my son!

And yes I exist, but came out of nowhere, since I have no parents. I'm a medical marvel!

Also, this might sound a bit agist, but my SO's mother suffers from Baby Boomer Technology Syndrome in that she's not as well-versed in computers and such. She plays a lot of games on FB, and allows a lot of third-party stuff into her profile and ugh... It's just a mess, and her computer has the viruses to show for it.
As far as FB, you would have to set the security to allow "friends of friends" for people other than your friends, to see your pictures. My son could not show anyone the pics I had posted of him (and tagged) from our race a few weeks ago. I had to change my settings on those particular photos.

Of course, you are correct in that you cannot control what anyone does with your picture. If they can see it, they can copy it and do whatever with it. I keep my FB friends to family and good friends, so I really don't worry about it.

Get a FB account. That way, if they post a photo on there, you can have it unposted. And if the photo is bad enough, you can always shoot them.

We had a similar beef with my sister because she posted pictures of my infant son on Facebook - without my permission. My wife and I were dead set against any posting of his pictures on Facebook, because we wanted to protect him. We since have relented a little - and posted some pictures - but we're his parents and it's our choice.

When it comes to posting pictures of other people and their kids, I think there's nothing wrong with having common courtesy and respecting the boundaries of others. Some people are cool with having their pics on Facebook, and others are not. So, why not ask before posting someone's pictures? I certainly wouldn't post pictures of someone else's children without the parents' permission.

I have posted a few pictures recently of my son, and I've adjusted the privacy setting so that my sister can't see the pictures, but all my other friends can.

My sister also took the liberty - again without my permission - of posting a photo of the exterior of my house on Facebook. I've always been against that sort of thing, and don't post pictures of the outside of my house on Facebook. While I don't live in a mansion, I live in a nice house, and I think it's show-offy to post stuff like that on Facebook. I personally (and if you disagree, fine) feel that doesn't come across well, and don't wish to do it.

I'm not an attorney, but I feel that unless you can demonstrate that you were damaged somehow by the pictures being posted on Facebook or other sites, you don't really have any remedy under the law. Sure, you can sue for whatever you want, but winning a case is another story altogether.
