Anyone else not get together with relatives at Christmas?
EVERYONE I know spends nearly a $1000 on Christmas Gifts and spends hours and hours at the mall shopping for them. Come Christmas Eve they make the long trek to their relatives to sleep on the floor and spend the long weekend with relatives. NOT ME!
I don't spend a dime on Christmas gifts and don't see my relatives at Christmas. If I went they would give me a hard time for not spending a thousand on gifts.
Do you know anyone else who does not buy gifts for Christmas (who is Christian)?

I attend mass and make a few phone calls, that's it.

I attend Mass and just buy gifts only for my parents and siblings. I don't get into the whole hoopla of buying gifts, gift cards and baking goodies for people. I refuse to go into debt over Christmas shopping

I'm not celebrating with my relatives this year. I got a temp job and am working so I can make money cause I have no money to spend anyway.
(BTW I'm not Christian but most of my family is so I think this still applies to me.)

I'm not Christian either but my family professes to be. I don't even go to visit them this time of year. Holidays are fraught with "issues" and tensions are high. I prefer to see them under less stressful situations. Like interventions, arraignments, announcements of DNA test results...
Really my visits are few and far between and obligatory at best. Everyone is okay with this arrangement, it works.

Could you kindly not call me and ask me if my refrigerator is running.

Moved away from family 3 years ago. We have not gone home for Christmas since we moved. We only live 4 hours away but we live by a large lake and we get blasted quite often with lake effect snow, so its a wonderful excuse. I never liked Christmas even as kid because of the family tension and bull crap. So for me not having to deal with it is really nice. We visit in the summer when tensions are low.

my brother and sister abused my mom untill she died 3 years ago and her birthday is 12-25 so no I have no family to go see. They are sick and twisted. I have to think about how to file charges against them. Long story but, I gave my mom everything she could want and need when I could and then some. They saw that I could keep her in food, clothes, furniture, homes and so they took her money for themselves. So no I dont do any holidays

Nope. I will be alone in my house watching the Honeymooners marathon I believe with a little Captain Jack to make me feel all warm inside.

Since my sibilings and I are all grown we no longer exchange gifts.
If you want a good Christmas meal without dealing with your relatives just drive around and find the house with the most cars at it and go in. No one will notice with that many people and if anyone asks you're 3rd cousin on someone's side - and people will think you're just crazy cousin Eddy or something.
