I know how you feel... I see rudeness and impolite people in a daily basis.

For example, today I was working outside near a busy corner and two cars both arrived at the stop sign at the same time. The configuration was, one car made it first to the stop sign, and the second car came right behind the first car that was at the stop sign.

Well, apparently, the guy in the first car was lost or something so he took a few extra SECONDS then one would normally take and that just pissed off the guy behind him to the point where the guy in the second car started shouting and blowing his horn with his fist out in the air.

What the guy did in the second car did was uncalled for. He's lucky the guy in the first car did not get out his car, pull out a gun, and just shoot him.

Edit:

Anyhow, as far as your question, "...does anybody care anymore?", the problem is two issues:

1. American culture has broken down over the past 30+ years (and I'm not sure how much further it's going to go) due to all this crap garbage that passes for entertainment. It has trained people to think it's cool to be rude and disrespectful, and it has trained people to think that something is wrong with you if you chose to carry yourself with dignity and civility.

2. American culture is a anti social, isolationist, hyper competitive, uncaring society that will chew you up and spit you out if you let it. So the only way to survive in a place like this is to be rude, uncaring, and aggressive toward others, otherwise people will mark you as easy prey.

In other words, this society was constructed in a way where we all compete against each other for basic resources with no end in sight. So it's only natural that all of us are rude to each other, because at the heart of it all, we're all rivals at varying degrees (i.e.,competing to get into collage, competing for same jobs, competing for homes close to good schools, competing for top grades, ect.. ect..).

I hear you... I just don't deal with unfreindly people altogether. It's not worth it.

What do you think the ratio is of purely pleasant people vs. not-so-nice people?

I am thinking 5/95.

It seems most people are complaining about how bad most people are, so a lot of those people are practically complaining about themselves.

Funny story this AM.

A guy parks his pickup at the gas pump and has it filled up, and I pull in behind him.

Then he goes to use the rest room, and doesn't come out for a few min.

I'm not able to back up because there are a few cars behind me leading to the road.

Finally the guy returns and asks the attendant if they sell something in the convenience store, and starts walking to the store.

The attendant tells him he is holding everyone up.

The poor dumb @$% didn't have a clue.

OK I guess you had to be there.

I hear ya. I have noticed that even a slight driving mistake (say you didn't see a driver coming and pulled out) is met with fingers and red hot fire faces.
The days of gentlemen and ladies is past.
