Thought this would make for an interesting thread. I got along with both of my parents.

However, I got along better with my Dad. My Dad called a "spade a spade," and sometimes it was pretty funny. Some of his observations of people when we were driving down the street were hilarious. But he could turn it off in a heartbeat and be very well-spoken and polished when the situation required it. He loved to travel and was always up for a road-trip. However, when he and I "locked horns," it was not a pretty sight. We both had strong personalities. I usually won, though. But the rest of the time, we got along great. Not only that, at first he didn't want a dog, but then, he would always be taking my dog with him on walks or for car rides.

My Mom was the "peacemaker" in the family. Her behavior did not run a wide gamut. She was mostly placid, sometimes moapy. I have no sisters, so she was surrounded by men. She was usually quiet and ignored all the "high volume" arguing of the guys in the house. The only issues I had with her was on etiquette. That is, telling me to send birthday or condolence cards to people I didn't give a rat's a$$ about, and we would go back and forth. And stuff like that. I ignored it. She also tolerated my dog, and wouldn't touch it because she thought animals didn't belong in the house.

Which parent did you get along with better?

It's funny - I'm closer with my mom but she is capable of driving me a little crazy sometimes. So in some ways, I guess I actually get along better with my dad (though we are not quite as close).

I definitely get along with dad a lot more. He's 10 years older than my mom but he's not as conservative or as paranoid as her so he's a lot easier to talk to and he gets a lot more of the stuff my brothers and I do and say. Some of the stuff he says is ridiculous and he can be extremely judgmental but I just chalk it up to a generational thing. Either way, dad laughs a lot more and has a good sense of humor, my mom finds nothing at all to be funny.

Agreed on the ridiculous/judgmental. But everyone thought my Dad was funny.

We should probably also indicate our gender, since sometimes it is NOT obvious from our "handles."

I get along with both my parents very well, they're both warm, loving, generous people. But it's probably telling that their home number is in my phone as "Mom."

My mother , not because she is easygoing (she isn't although she believes it) but because my father is worse -autoritarian and humorless type I didn't meet sine nearly 30 years. Just didn't get along with the Old Man, and mother although she has a lot of shortcoming, is still at the end of the day my mum, and I'm her only son (she divorced my father who was extremely jealous back when I was still a small child).
My parents married too young (19 and 25), they were not mature enough.

I was close with both my parents but probably closer with my mom. My mom is the one I tell everything to - but I used to talk to my father a lot, too, when he was alive.
