Dad needs to tell her she's too old to sit on his lap. She's not a kid anymore.

Send her my way. I will let her hold my hand, sit in my lap, bat her eyes at me.

He needs to tell her no pretty firmly.

We were friends with a family where the oldest daughter, age 15, was way too cuddly with the stepfather. We dropped them as friends because the relationship was too hard to explain to our kids, who kept asking about it. We didn't tell the family anything about not being friends, just became too busy whenever they wanted to get together.

So wait, Your best friend is a female and she is married to the Dad of the 16 year old? How long have they been married? This could easily be a jealousy issue. I think the Dad needs to create some boundaries but the girl also needs to know where she stands with him and that she is not competing with his wife!

Gahhhh this reminds me strongly of a family I once vaguely knew...

There was mother, father and daughter. The daughter was a very well developed 12 year old.

You would SWEAR the daughter and father were in love. At a party, they were always together. Lots of whispering and snickering and very intimate body language. The mother literally seemed like the third wheel.

One day I commented on it (it was a newish group of people I had met) and one of the other women said "all three of them are at it" - meaning (I think) there was some sort of threesome going on between dad, mum and daughter.

It was beyond creepy...but they all seemed as happy as clams, especially the daughter. BTW these were just normal, middle class people.

WIERD.

Extremely weird. I would have been tempted to call Child Protective Services. It reminds me of the fake stories people write for porn magazines to let men think it's ok to have sex with your daughter or niece.

Very creepy and sounds like the parents were sexually abusing their daughter. I'm surprised if they knew what was going on nobody said anything.

It is creepy. I don't like it and our circle of friends are uncomfortable. We've been trying to decide if the men need to talk to the Dad.

My friend and the girls dad have been married for 10 years, I don't think it's a jealousy issue. But its really grossing our 18 year old daughter out. And she commented last night theat they act like gf/bf.

I think that my friend ( the step-mom) wants to say something to her husband, but, doesnt want to "nit picky"...the girls mother died when she was 4. But this closeness has got to stop or alot of our friends are about to mark them off the guest list.

That it is creepy to me...however, I come from a family that never really gives hugs or expresses feelings. We are more of a implied love kinda family

Over time I have met many people that are VERY different from my family. My husband's uncle and his family are an example. That side of my family is a very affectionate family. The uncle and wife and 2 female cousins (ages 21 and 24) are always hugging and sitting close, and the girls will sit on their dad's lap (not in a cuddling way...but too close for my comfort). I also noticed that the uncle has a lingering hug. I find it all VERY uncomfortable, but all and all I do not think there are any legal boundries crossed and I guess that is their normal.

Another example: Another friend and I were talking one day (because she is a hugger and I am not). And she is in her mid 30s and she says her family are very affectionate. Mom, dad and her will snuggle up to watch tv or a movie, always hugging, will sit on each other's laps. Like I said very bizzare for me..but it is their normal.

Anyways. I guess I can relate to the OP for being creeped out...but different strokes for different folks. Some families are just like that and are not crossing legal boundries (that I know of).
