Question Are men funnier than women?

This is a controversial subject but recently comedian Adam Carolla opened up the tinderbox and outright said men are funnier than women. I'd say he's right for the most part since most female comedians are funny only to other women like Chelsea Handler. There aren't many women on par with George Carlin, Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphy. What do you think?

I'm a woman, and happen to agree with Adam! Not to say women can't be "funny," but in terms of stand-up comedy I've always thought men were funnier. I don't know why, but even the BEST female comedian (IMO people like Kathy Griffin, Joan Rivers, Ellen DeGeneres, Margaret Cho, etc) still can't compete with the best male comedians... only Margaret Cho comes close in my opinion, and she happens to be bisexual with a fairly "masculine" aura & voice. Hmmm, interesting.

Not sure if it's in the delivery or material (or both), but it seems men just have a more natural knack for comedy! I also happen to like raunchier material, which does sound kinda forced coming from most women. Guess you could consider that a good thing, depending on the situation.

Men tend to hog the stage more, and choose careers as comedians. That doesn't mean they're funnier than women. Think back on the "greats": Lucille Ball, Carol Burnette. I can't think of any male comedians who could beat Lucille Ball. Bob Hope was boring, I don't know how he ever made a career for himself as a comedian! Charlie Chaplin was awful! I haven't been impressed with George Carlin, either. Maybe he's an acquired taste, like Woody Allen The male comedians seem to be that way, while the female comedians have a wider appeal, or one for a more general audience.

Tina Fey is pretty dang ol funny. I think this was traditionally a field dominated by men. Call me back in 15 years when the people Tina Fey and Kristen Wiig influenced, are old enough to start entering the business.

I think men remember jokes better, I think. I don't pay much attention to jokes, though I might find them funny. Also, some jokes are very crude and it's hard for women to get that crude and be funny.

maybe men are funnier because they have less stress in life, do not bear nor take care of children regularly. Women would probably be funny too if they lived as carefree.

I love Tina Fey! And the crazy Lady from Superstar. And the ladies from Brides Maids.

Generally really funny guys have lived really hard lives like Chris Rock, Christopher Titus, Richard Pryor etc. Also most comedians are hardly carefree, most have serious depression or mental issues, that's why so many die young like John Belushi, Sam Kinison, Richard Jeni and Greg Giraldo Sense of humor is the only thing that keeps a lot of those guys from killing themselves and a lot of comedians really teeter on the brink.

Mitch hedberg was my favorite, and he killed himself just like Jenni did.

Joan Rivers is also pretty funny, but based on history, more males probably "make-it" as comedians, hence there are fewer funny women to even enter into that pool (because it is a male dominated profession).

I also think that Roseann Barr can be very witty/funny.
