how can you get your in - law to behave better in public?

just had a bbq so embaressing for me ........... any advice

fighting, showed up with nothing, leaving with everything, feeling entitle to you stuff,etc

You can't. The chances of changing the behavior of adults is slim to none. I'd limit your time in public with them. Depending on why they don't behave limiting the amount of alcohol available when they are there might help as well.

Stop inviting them. If they complain, tell them why. If they complain, hang up the phone. If they come round anyway, tell them they're not welcome unless they can behave. If they don't behave, consider moving.

its not that ........... how do these nice innocent kids grow up to became monster...... who are selfish, self - center, rude, disrespectful, loud, etc

I hate my in-laws and they hate me. Solution? Zero contact since 1998. Not one phone call, meeting, card, no nothin'. I refuse to be around evil people, even if they happen to be my husband's parents. People have no obligation to surround themselves with people they dislike, unless it's at work. In your private life? Oh heck no!

Wait are you talking about your MIL/FIL or some other in law? Are these adults or teens?
