About five months ago, I had a co-worker (I didn't know well) come out of a bathroom that I was waiting to use. All I did was ask, did you do a number one or number two? You know, just wanted to be prepared...Boy, you would have thought that the world had ended. Or that I killed someone. She was pissed like you wouldn't believe. Even told our manager. I was like wow, how freaking touchy. I didn't mean nothing by it, and was just being funny. I guess some people take going to the bathroom REAL seriously..

Yeah some people have to make a point of how indoctrinated, or stupid or weird you are if you don't believe in it. They start railing against religion. So much for respecting different points of view.
If we're being completely honest here, I think people who don't believe in evolution are....those things you said above.
That doesn't mean I tell them that, or treat them shabbily because of it. I most likely would not be friends with people like that in real life, but I still treat them the same as anyone else at work or anywhere else. I don't respect their point of view, but I respect their right to have and express that point of view and not be treated like crap because of it.
That doesn't mean that I'm excluded from thinking bad things about them!

Otoh, folks that take the Bible literally tend to be fairly intolerant and thin-skinned...especially since they often like to parse text to fit their bigotted beliefs.

There are bigots on both sides. I agree some can be wilfully ignorant.
I'm not surprised, in NYC people probably only greet each other when they wanna rumble.
That's not true, but you don't just say hello to some random stranger, either. It's a congested, heavily populated place, and you have to give people their space as much as possible, physically and especially psychologically, since physically isn't always possible.
