I don't say anything on line in any forum or social networking site that I would be ashamed of people knowing, or worry about people reading, so I just don't worry too much about it.
Would the fact that you regularly post on a forum be something you'd be happy to share with friends and family?
I'm not a techno-geek, but I do know how to read directions. I know how to find my own stuff all over the web ... how to find who, what, where, when, etc. .... Yes, employers, HR people, universities and others DO check FB and other sites ....
Well Duh! That's why you don't post pics on Cd.
I'm mean,really!
Other than the fact that I have an extremely uncommon name, and that being a nurse, that's public info,so if someone knew my name, they could check the Nj. Board of Nursing. I don't have a twitter, facebook, and the only other site I use is Allnurses(I'm a moderator) and [domain blocked due to spam]
Whatever. If someone is dying to find out who I am, they must be bored out of their minds.
and obsessed with you. I'd be more concerned about people outside here thinking they know who is who or who is me and then applying some of the threads started by just anyone here to family members and co-workers. Imagine some nosy screwball you work with/related to assuming they know all about what you think and it's really someone else or just an opinion you have about a topic here and are judged on it based on they don't like it whether it's you or not.
I agree. I don't hide who I am, but I also don't promote details about myself (personal information) other than in generalities. If someone is going to find me out, then so be it. I'm just not going to help them.
Okay, say I found out who you are and where you work. Would you care if I sent your boss and coworkers an email with a select list of your less charming posts?
Since I am my own boss, go for it. I am not particularly rude, and while I enjoy a good debate, when I debate politics or issues on fb or whatever I try to do it in an intelligent, respectful way because I try very hard to live by the golden rule and respect others choices and pretty much am only intolerant of intolerance. When I poke fun of someone it is myself or my kids, in a teasing banter kind of way. I've made mistakes, of course, but I admit them, apologize when it is necessary and move on.
I learned very early on not to post things that you don't want the world to know because they will most likely come back to bite you in the butt. (Same as in real life, someone, somewhere will find things out and if you wouldn't want your mama or your spiritual counselor or whomever you wouldn't want to shame or have ashamed of you to know about you, don't do it in the first place.)
No, I don't really care who knows who I am. I am just a 19 year old trying to enjoy life.
