Over the weekend, my friends and I got together. (We are all around the same age, 24. 2 of them had their wives there).

As I was pulling out of the driveway to go home at the end of the night, I heard one of them say, "Oh it's MidwestGuy's BMW huh? I wondered who's that was!"

And they all started laughing and pointing, snickering at my car.

What gives? I wasn't being obnoxious by speeding or playing loud music.

Maybe I should drive PT Cruisers like the rest of them.

Do you really care? If they're your friends, then I would expect it was good-natured ribbing. Is your BMW new or old?

Around a lot of people I know if you drive a Chevy and the others drive Fords or vice-versa, there will be some joking around and snickering. If everyone drives an American car and one drives a foreign car there will be jokes made.

No offense to you but bmw owners have a stigma of being pretentious, douche bags. It's sort of an inside joke with car enthusiasts.

On the flip side, bmw owners think it's out of jealously because the people can't afford to buy one. Could be a little of both?

I figure when other people start paying for my cars they can have a say in what I drive.

You must have some very shallow friends.

That was my first thought but what do I know, my friends have never laughed about any of my vehicles. They could care less what I drive and I honestly could care less what they drive. We are adults and make our own choices.
