I always try to glean from the job interview what type of workplace culture I would be getting into. I try to stay away from places were there are a lot of mothers. Why? I'm childfree. I don't like workplaces that favor parents and try to exploit the childfree. Of course my backup excuse is elderly parent, or brother. That's as important as someone's kids.

Good for you!
The majority of "managers" in these corporations are only there by virtue of the fact they know how to brown-nose. Then we turn around and expect these bozos to be able to make the right decision when it comes to hiring and promotions. The corporate world is a sick joke.

Right on.
I get tired of companies allowing solicitations for things they approve of. Either allow it all or allow none.
Just because the illustrious leaders of the place I work at like a certain charity, doesn't mean I do.

We're required to do x number of community service days per year also. Which is always on a Saturday.
I am the ONLY one who has ever followed the rules and showed up for these "volunteer to the community" days. Not one time in the 5 years I've been with this company has the moms or dads done this required community service. What's a person to do?
Just do what I do. When something comes up like that, call in sick. I used to be a diligent worker and, for the most part, still am. I just got tired of seeing the managers overlook me for everything and give projects, etc. to their pets. It's pretty bad when one has to lie in order to obtain reasonable accomodation for things, but when they shove you into a corner, what else can you do?
