It bothers me.
I know some people take it for granted, that they must answer and converse.

to me - if they want to be with me, they can let the caller leave a message.

I'd rather that someone tend to a phone call for a few minutes than text through an entire meal/evening/day out.

Yeah, I don't know why some consider the phone person (any phone person) to be more important than the present person (any present person).

I have gotten up and finally left a lunch companion sitting there (on the phone).

Depends on who that person is.

Friends or Family - I don't care, just handle your business. You will not offend me.
Date or Girlfriend - Don't even waste my time

does it bother you when someone you are hanging with, gets a phone call that they continue?

Before cell phone there were none of these must-answer interruptions, of course.

Now the technology is here for everyone to be instantly available, but that doesn't mean that you have to be. If someone is socializing with me, I do not expect them to get on the phone with someone else...and if they do I expect that they will say that they are with someone else and keep the call down to less than a minute.

If that is a problem for them, then they are a problem for me.

I tend to agree with this. When I'm out with my sister, I don't care. My DH? Nope.

The only person I would pick up for would be my bio family, and only long enough to make sure that nothing's wrong.

It depends.

If the phone call is from my sister telling me our mom is in an ambulance, you better believe I would continue with that call!
And any true friend would totally understand...

I look at it and see who it is. If I actually do answer, I'll say, "Hey, is this an emergency; because I'm busy? I'll need to call you back."

I'm with you on this! Let the call go into voicemail.

Depends on the situation.

Are you just hanging out with the person at his/her place? Then a short conversation isn't a problem.

If, on the other hand, a long conversation, especially at the dinner table and the whatnot, is rude. The only exception is an emergency.
