A few years back I rented a small office building for my business that had its own dumpster and parking spaces in the back. I did not anticipate that either would become a problem but they did.

The dumpster, oh what a pain. I would come in Monday morning and it would be full to overflowing with somebody else's garbage and broken toddler furniture, the kind of stuff we call Big Plastic ****. Posted a sign, did no good, full again the next Monday morn. Got a chain and a sturdy padlock. That stopped it. But I had to remember to remove the chain on the morning they picked up the dumpster.

There was one regular parking space and one handicapped. Sometimes I would arrive at work in the morning and my space would be taken, usually by some idiot having coffee at the restaurant next door. I put a sign up. It did no good. I started going into the restaurant and announcing that whoever parked their beige-mobile on my property was about to have their car towed. The restaurant folks, hippies with whom I otherwise had a good relationship, did not discourage their patrons from parking there either. They would actually suggest it to people. They had a 20 car lot of their own, yet they felt they could have their friends park on property I paid for. This behavior continued until I moved out. I saw recently they'd gone out of business and frankly, I'm happy about it.

Courtesy, decency, respect: Alien concepts to some people. Crazy lady in the OP had finally been pushed too far.

Our plastic lidded trashcan stays in the garage until I take it out
the night before the next morning's pickup. Never noticed a problem
yet.....

Twice weekly garbage pickup? Ours is the first Friday of the month. We also have curbside recycling every other Friday. Curbside meaning we haul it up a 600' gravel driveway. We compost foods and landscape debris like weeds except for meat and dairy. We try to reuse, reduce, recycle. We also live along a popular mountain bike route so don't mind if someone drops a baggy in before pickup. Afterwards, no. There is a garbage can or two of the trailhead kiosks a block or two up the road.

No, it's not just trash...it's dirty, filthy, stinky, dog crap...if you own a dog you pick up after it and either put it in your own trash (preferably) or public trash cans.
