If my dad had told me to cut the lawn, it would have been cut; no questions, no excuses. For your son to have disobeyed in such a way that is obviously a challenge to your authority to me means that you need to have a serious talk about who is running the house he lives in.

tell him you are going to pay someone to mow it and then he can pay for it ...If he does not like that then maybe he will remember to cut it next time when you tell him . he sounds irresponsible and he takes living rent free for granted . Time to put your foot down .

I been on 12 hour night shifts this week 7:00pm to 7:00am, so when I get home its off to bed for me. Since I'm off tonight until Monday, I got everything out and ready for him to do the lawn before I went to bed and I also spoke with him and let know that everything was ready and he needed to get that done this morning. I got up around 1:00 and the yard still looks like nobody lives at 181. So, I asked what is going on with the yard and why its not done or at least started yet. He lends the lawn mower to his friend 4 houses down the street, so I really cant believe what I'm hearing from him. I asked him to run that by me one more time and he said his friend wanted to use it right quick and said he will bring it right back. I wont say what all I told him but it amounts to you had better go get it now. Just got the thing out of the shop on Monday and he know I been on him all week. I really don't like lending my lawn mower and especially to people I don't know anything about. Now its 2:40pm and the yard still is not cut and no signs of him or the lawn mower. Am I making too much of a big deal about this or I just need to calm down ?
Consider making a "big deal" about the fact you apparently feel as though you have to treat a 20 year old young man like a 10 year old

I would be extremely irate. I don't even want anyone touching my lawn mower, let alone lending it out. I suppose you feed him also. I'd tell him, no cut grass, no dinner.

It's time to show Jr some tough love and break his plate, especially if he isn't gainfully employed and attending college.

I had to set my son straight and remind him I work hard for what I have and if they want things, they need to get off their lazy rear ends and get jobs.
My daughter used to loan out everything to a similar lot of people. My vacuum cleaner. The iron. The salt, flour, sugar, etc. Like who is heck has to borrow salt every evening?

I'd had enough one time and just had to give my daughter the cold hard truth. Early in the afternoon one "lady" borrowed flour. Then milk later. Then baking soda. Imagine my surprise when my daughter told me that she made biscuits. Geeze, I wonder how?

Thanks, and I did have that serious talk with him today. Prior to this week, I never had any trouble with him not doing the things I ask. I don't know what got into him this week but hopefully I nipped that in the bud. He also let me know that he and his girlfriend have plans to get a place together when he is done with school and he find work.

I may be tempted to tell him that he should find work now if he wants to spend the night with his girlfriend, he can do it at their place not in your home where you finance everything.

Hope the talk eased your anger. Good luck to you and your son.

GF is going to get knocked up if not already. If he made a drastic change in attitude something is up. Still he showed a lack of respect for you and your home. Give him the job of cutting the grass weekly. That's part of his rent. If he is going to move out he may as well get used to it.
