I have a younger sister (about 3 years), and it is really interesting how our relationship and her personality has shifted over the years.

We look alike, have similar voices, have similar builds. IF you meet us at the same time, it will be pretty clear we are related. Some people even think we are twins. We live in the same neighborhood, about 1 mile apart, and each of us has had recent experiences where people have either mistaken us for each other or had someone come up and ask if we were related (since they had previously met our sibling).

At first glance we are pretty similar. We are approachable, high-energy, and conversational (we are 4 times more likely than average to get into a conversation in the grocery store line).

As children, my sister was in my "shadow" (in the way it often is for younger/older siblings) and was compared to me. But in our late teens (mid teens for her) when she started to come into her own identity, it was almost like she decided to be my polar opposite in temperament and style.

Now she is the "edgy" one and I am the "nice" one. My stye is kinda modern preppy and she is more like "california casual."

She has a mouth like a sailor, and I pretty much never curse.

She is more likely to bring up "controversial" topics and present a strong opinion, and I am a bit more diplomatic and reserved in that way.

It is really funny. Is there a similar dynamic with you and your siblings?

Not sure why the thread is entitled Sibling Rivalry, since it doesn't really seem to be about rivalry, but about similarities & difference between siblings. You don't seem to talk about how you and your sister are in competition with each other, or in conflict with each other; that would be rivalry.
