As some of you know, I am an early adopter of Bitcoin and have been looking at withdrawing for the purpose of buying a new home.
Previously, I had contacted a guy who specializes in brokering bitcoin-to-cash deals on a large institutional scale via an IRC channel (Old fashioned internet chat room). For the first few days everything was fine, he was very friendly. I told him that he would be brokering a large amount and would gain possibly over 7 figures in commissions for the total/full amount of my withdrawals throughout the year. I also told him that he would first have to be vetted and go through some questioning.
I request my company's security, intelligence & investigations unit to conduct a background check on him, as he doesn't have any record of being online or on the internet (I know people in OSINT, InfoSec, etc). He doesn't have a website, Facebook account or even a BitcoinTalk forum account, however he does attend conventions and knows/met a few people I know.
The background check comes back, he is a drifter who has moved from multiple cities, who has multiple felonies for computer/fraud (breaking & entering), one for tampering with evidence and multiple traffic violations. He also doesn't have a driver's license yet he drives and uses a fake ID for airline travel.
We proceed with questioning and I ask him very specific questions relating to this, as well as regular psychological questions to determine his ability and mental stability. He lies multiple times. I send him an email a day after and tell him about some inconstancies. He doesn't respond, however he does talk to someone on this chatroom saying that he thinks I am stalking him.
3 weeks pass.
Today I get a phone call from him, along with another guy called "R" who is apparently former US Army, DoD & Department of State who ran a background check on me. They attempted to run a background check on me using governmental systems (unconfirmed, but stated) and informed me that it came back with no results. They are now wanting me to meet up with a proxy person with my passport (specifically my passport) along with other documents such as utility bills.
My company's security staff have informed me to cease contact and said it maybe necessary for them to intervene due to kidnapping risks.
He also said to one of my staff members in a chatroom that he dislikes me because I "wasted his time" even though he never responded for three weeks.
I don't know whether to feel bad, but I know I didn't waste his time, and I am concerned for my personal safety.
I really don't think I can trust this guy based on his history and current lack of judgment and lies, let alone what has happened today.

What do you think regarding this?
You can't possibly still be considering having any kind of financial relationship with this guy at this point, can you? Stay as far away from him as possible, and let your security people and the police do whatever they have to do to protect you.

I am definitely not considering having any relationship with him at all. But am I right for having that opinion/action.

In my opinion, absolutely. No question. Thank god you did your due diligence and found out who this guy really is before you let him anywhere near your coinage.
I know where you're coming from, because I'm a trader too. I've come across some real flakes. The nature of digital currencies, and the darknet markets, attracts some of the worst bottom-feeders on the internet, and it sounds like you found one of the real winners. I'm just glad for your sake that you weeded him out before he had a chance to do any real damage. Good luck to you on finding someone you can trust more than him; it can only get better from there!
sounds like the first 5 minutes of a law and order episode..
stay away from this fruit loop.... and keep some pepper spray with you..
