With all the talk about the glories of diversity one unspoken truth is missing. MOST PEOPLE LIKE PEOPLE BEST WHO ARE LIKE THEMSELVES!
I wish I could meet more people who have my personality, perspective on life, conversational style, interests and temperament. I get frustrated that I don't meet more people who are like me.
While meeting and interacting with people who are not like me is interesting, it is better for short term contact. It is easier and more satisfying to meet people more like me. I always think it would be perfect if I could meet my identical twin who grew up in a different home and had different experiences but other than that is just like me. Now that would be the perfect friend.
Yes and no. I've met plenty of people who SEEM to be a lot like me (life stage, situations, certain interests) but I don't always click with them. Of what you listed I think conversational style and life perspective are more important. As is sense of humor, which I really can't stress enough comes between me and other my age A LOT.
I hate people who can't carry on a decent convo about anything I find interesting. And I find MANY things interesting so it shouldn't be that hard. One of my closest friends is really not able to converse with me about too many things. We stick to a few topics and mostly just do things occasionally that we both like (movies, trying to eateries, etc.) but talk is limited. We had dinner with a 3rd person the other night and me and the third gal spent 30 minutes talking about our phones OS and trading tips and tricks, while our mutual non-techy friends just sat there bored. I felt bad but it was a nice break from talking about family stuff.
Oh, yeah. OP is definitely the poster formerly known as I'm Retired Now. This thread is proof of that.
AFAIC, you cannot be taken seriously any longer. You began as a childless, married man forced into retirement who then had imaginary sons looking for work. Now your persona is a woman, recently laid off from her 20 year position as an office manager.
OP, all you're doing is messing with people's minds, and that ain't cool.

And they still haven't elaborated on the gender status of their female nephew in all this time despite repeated requests for more information on this subject.
