Never lend money to anyone because it often damages the relationship. Either refuse to lend people money or just give them the money as a gift with no expectation of ever getting it back.
As you age, you come to realize that most people in your life are actually coworkers, acquaintances, neighbors, cohorts, etc. True friends, who have your back and put your welfare at the forefront, are a rarity and a treasure.
If you have one good friend you can get through anything.
I was pondering this the other day...
I consider myself a loner by nature, always have been...
So in my 20s & 30s I really didn't care about socializing, etc.
I was also raising my kids, tho.
Now, in my mid 40s-
it's interesting, how many people I know for one thing, (without Fakebook, lol)
but also the people who really just wanna hang out, etc.
Just yesterday, I was coordinating me & a few new chums to take our Harley Davidson classes together......
My only issue is making time for it, as I work so much....
But I definitely feel that I have more acquaintances now than then.
Notice I didn't use the word "friends"
I'm very selective w/ that word....
I believe that people call others "friends" way too easily
Ah the good old days. Not. I'm glad those turbulent 20's are far behind me. All I can tell you is that it's a temporary stage. That friendship you have with that one friend will be all the sweeter if it stands the test of time. I've made many good friends later in life and those mature friendships are the best. Patience young grasshopper. This too shall pass.
Fewer friends is one of the greatest perks of getting older. After 18 and 21 there isn't much else to look forward to except ditching those douchebags. :-)
But seriously. As you age you will probably learn two things; who your real, true friends are, and that you don't need to spend a lot of time with them to maintain a true friendship.

So true, especially your last sentence. Som of my closest friends are quite a distance away. It stinks that we don't see each other often but we have incredible bonds and they're there for me always.
It might be worth printing out to remind me that I'm not alone with many of those points of view.
