in my marriage, we are allowed to "kidnap" the other one. ya know, "shut up & get in the car dear" kinda thing. the receiving party knows to just go with the flow. we've done things like attending a ren faire, playing tourist in vegas, viewing a private classic car collection, a sunset dinner cruise down the snake river in idaho. simple but memory making gifts.

hubby also likes treasure hunts - leaving clues around the house to find his "present". one year i left him all kinds of clues around the house, ultimately he would've found me at a local semi fancy hotel, but it backfired on me. i made the clues waaaay too hard for him, so he never left the house

Does he enjoy wine, bourbon, whiskey, etc? I don't mean that he gets drunk every night lol...my husband enjoys sipping good bourbon and port so sometimes I pick up something I he likes but doesn't get because it's expensive.

We sometimes get concert tickets for each other even if the event is a few months after our birthdays. We also go to a more upscale restaurant for our birthdays since we don't really exchange gifts anymore.

I don't like cake, either -- as a kid, my mother would make a birthday pie for me
