For all we know, this trip could have been planned and booked ages ago.
The others may see this as a chance to enjoy elegant surroundings and each others' company. The OP sees it differently.... and that is okay. His prerogative.

To assume that the others are going into debt for this is ludicrous.

No fretting needed. Do what you have to do. The point is supposed to be about being together, so focus on that.
exactly this, nobody knows your finances better than you.

They'll get over it OP. If they don't then that's just sad. I say do what you want.

What would you do?
Why do you have so much travel dilemma?

There is ALWAYS an inexpensive option around the corner from the swank, luxury hotel unless you are staying on a private island resort.

Stay at the cheap option around the corner.

Check out the OP's past posts - I doubt this is a situation that's actually happening.

Some people, like myself, like fine hotels. If I was with a group that decided to have a nice time in a fine hotel and then you try to change the plans it would not be appreciated. I say go along with the group or stay home. Not half and half.

Agreed. Either that or he has the most dysfunctional family in the world.

Besides, I'm surprised his family found rooms at the Ritz Carlton for only $300 a night. Most of them range between $350 to $500 for a basic room a night depending on location.

Why should this bother you when it's clear from your myriad of new threads that you really don't give a toss about anyone else's opinion at all given that you're "right" all the time. Stay where you want to stay and then you can start half a dozen more threads about the resultant actions and comments of your dysfunctional relatives.

Just another "start new thread, contribute to it once more and then run" piece of fiction.

He simultaneously started another thread about flying back from Paris and somebody wouldn't close their shade.

I hate this stupid "most prolific poster" contest CD has. It drives people to write the must idiotic and inane posts. It's almost like trolling.
