I was talking to a girl the other day that is on her HS reunion planning committee. Their 30 year reunion is coming up in a couple of weeks. I asked her how many people are planning on attending and she said about 25-30 out of a class of about 300.

I got to thinking and wondering since Facebook has come to be, do you think that maybe that's why people aren't as interested in their high school reunions as people seemed to be in the past? People can go on Facebook and find a lot of info about their classmates i.e. what they are up to, look like, kids, spouse, etc.

LOL!
Our reunion was better because of Facebook. Nothing like getting face-to-face after all the computer time.
It was my 40th.

Wow, only 10% coming to the reunion?!

We usually had 30% to 40% of our close to 900 graduates at each reunion.

My mom just went to her 60 year reunion. Her school class was a lot less yet she had a bigger turn out for hers than this girl with the class of 300.

I don't think hardly any in my mom's class have Facebook. I did set my mom up with a FB acct. but she doesn't know what to do with it.

I have no clue. I was trying to figure out why this HS reunion of 300 grads has such a low attendance. It struck me as odd.

We tend to get less than half, but I think it's because we are spread out all over the country. Fewer than that still live in the area of our high school. Basically, a lot of those within driving distance go, but the ones who have to fly and don't have relatives in the area anymore don't come. Can't blame them, really - heck of an expense.

You've got that right.

I just recently moved back to my old hometown where I graduated. I'd still not be interested in going even with it being in the same town. Running into old classmates while I'm out and about is enough for me. I don't need a reunion. My class was about 500.

Nope! I DESPISED high school. I think I said before I even finished my senior year that I'd never set foot in that place or have anything to do with my classmates again.

I DID end up friending some old HS classmates...but the 20th reunion is coming up soon and I'm not attending.

I haven't been to any of my reunions, and won't go to any. High school sucked and I have no desire to relive it.

I don't generally get the purpose for High School reunions. Those people who I wish to keep up with I do. The only reason I would ever go would be to show that I'm aging reasonably well and have been successful in life (e.g. marriage, family, career). But truthfully, I think that's superficial and a bit petty and so wouldn't bother.

My ten year reunion was in 2012 and nope, I didn't go. I deactivated my Facebook. I didn't go because I don't have anything to talk about, no career, no spouse, no kids, and I don't look better than I did in high school. I don't talk to anyone I knew back then anyway, so what's the point in parading around how weary my life is ten after to a bunch of successful, happy strangers who would love nothing more than see someone who became nothing.
