Unless this is a special kind of elevator, you can't just change directions. You may have inadvertantly pressed 4 instead of 5.

OP never came back to this thread. Must have realized the sheer stupidity of not pressing a destination button on the elevator.

If you pressed the 5th floor before him, the elevator has to go to the 5th floor first. Before it goes down to 4.

how did he bypass that? I have never been in an elevator where that happens. You must have had an effed up elevator.

We have a sometimes effed up elevator where we definitely press the button, it lights up. Then it goes up about an inch, then stops, the light goes off and its as if you never pressed your elevator. You are not watching it and it misses your floor. That is an effed up elevator. Maybe thats what happened to this guy. It happens in our building and is very annoying. I have seen where other people have pressed their floor and then i see their light go out and i tell them you better press it again.

some of us have bad knees and we cannot use the stairs even for one floor.
