I'm guessing to be nosey, keep tabs, add a number. Because people with 900 FB friends are really or were really friends with 900 people?

I am just about ready to unfriend someone for that same reason, myself.

Ugh...I had to unfollow someone recently. A family member that would be incredibly hurt if I deleted her so unfollowing was the beset option. She just joined Facebook. She is homebound for the most part due to being disabled but she also has mental health issues. Her posts are pretty bizarre, way too personal and in abundance. She goes on a spree for an hour where she posts something every 2 minutes. It fills up my wall and I have to keep scrolling to see something else. I might post something twice a week and when I do, she blows up my post with tons of responses. I recently did a home project and posted a pic. She responded 7 times in a row, each with a single question.

"Looks great! I love you so so much!"
"How much did it cost?"
"When did you do that?"
"You are so talented, I love you so so much!"
"What did that table cost?"
"Where did you get it?"
"Was it more than 200? If it was, I can't afford it but if it was less, please let me know."

It is almost like you can feel her manic state coming through the screen. At first I thought she didnt know how to string sentences together being a newbie but when she makes her own posts, it's paragraphs and I mean paragraphs! Aside from her being annoying, her posts actually bum me out because its obvious she isn't well.

Ever since I got twitter in 2010 I've checked facebook maybe 4 times a year. I don't know why I haven't de-activated it yet.

FB has been great for me reconnecting with some folks. Unfortunately my HS buddies all seem to be ultra liberal whereas my college friends are very conservative. Very few are in the middle like me. Most just post pictures of kids, grandkids, food, cute animals, funny videos, etc and keep their political/religious opinions to themselves. Some though love to get on their soapbox about particular issues and tend to make pretty imflammatory statements about folks who don't share their viewpoints. I really don't want to hear their rantings and several times have thought about unfriending them. A few FB friends are pretty extreme and those folks irritate me the most.

If I want to debate and argue with folks, I just come to CD. I'm not looking to get into heated exchanges on FB.

I don't use Facebook anymore, or "The Facebook" as some older people call it. It's polluted with middle aged folks trying desperately to be "in" with all their hiking collages, backpacking trips, pictures of the kids and dogs, etc.
