Leave it why need to hurt a friend for 20$ right? I am sure he or she did his best for some reason it bounced back. I think leave it. It is not worth. In case if your friend ask it then you can be honest with it other wise no. Be grate full for at least send even a bounce check than completely nothing.
What makes it worse is that I sent him a text thanking him when I got it and told him I'd be depositing the check ASAP. Now if he sends another check or a check in the future I'll be cautious about depositing it but I also don't want to sit on it and mess up his checking balance.
If he sends another just stop by the bank he wrote it on and check funds & cash..
This stuff is not that hard !!!!

I work in banking. A bounced check I deposited would cause me a lot of embarrassment. I think you have the right to an explanation and to ask to get the $12 fee reimbursed from him. If he is your friend, he should not have a problem righting his wrong and will get over his embarrassment to do it.
My son turned 1 recently and a childhood friend of mine sent him a check for $20 as a birthday present. I deposited the check about a week ago. Today I got an email that the $20 check had bounced and my bank is removing the $20 + a $12 returned check charge from my account.
Now this money isn't that big of a deal obviously but should I say anything to my friend? I'm guessing if he doesn't have $20 in his account he will know that the check bounced and he will probably get charged a fee from his bank as well. I don't plan on saying anything but I just thought I'd get some opinions.
Since it's a gift, this is awkward.
I might not say anything if it was someone I knew was on hard times. But if it was someone who I know can afford it, I would ask them for the $12.
If it was money they owed me, they'd be paying me the whole $32 and I would never accept a check from them again.
If he sends another check in the future I would say with a light tone "hey, is that another one that I can't deposit, remember, your last one bounced" and see what he says.
My goodness, that would be mean-spirited. I would just hold onto the check until he asks why you haven't deposited it. That way at least you know he's keeping track of it.
It seems many are concerned with this friend's embarrassment.
There needn't be if handled casually... if he does seem embarrassed, ya just put
him at ease with a,
"Hey, its no problem...but if you ever need some help lemme know, Tom. "
The truth in a friendship brings two closer. Confuscious say.
I'm very grateful that my friend did this for my son but I'm also slightly annoyed that I have to pay fines due to him being unable to have $20 in his checking account. I suppose this makes me a bad person!
No, it means you have a bad bank.
Don't say a word. The first time, the next time or ever.
