I usually say, "Hi, how are you?" or "how's it going?"

I like "how do you do?" but I don't remember hearing that in ages!

I often get : "hows you?" in net chats.

Lol! I've heard from people in other areas that the phrase "how are you? " is over used in New England and New York because no one ever really answers it, cares, or listen to anyone else answer yet we say it reflexively! !

Oh my goodness.....I say it all the time when shaking someone's hand and meeting them for the first time. Never thought it was dated or archaic, and no one that has been greeted that way has ever shown any shock or surprise at the greeting. I always thought of it as just using common manners.
