another 'no' here.

If I want to know, I'll ask. Part of friendship (for me) is trust. Googling just feels too sneaky.

Business? Yes. Or, to be more precise, LinkedIn.

Personal? No.

No. I generally don't search for info. about specific individuals IRL, it doesn't occur to me as a thing to do.

No. Only when I have cause for concern, and if I have cause for concern, well probably I'm not going to look to extend our acquaintance.

With regard to my job, I'm frequently researching people and googling them, mostly via professional web sites.

I am in the same boat. My name is really common in Ireland and the UK. It makes me smile.

I have googled potential bosses just as part of a general company search, not to look for any personal info or look at their facebook page. Lol

I really can't see any reason to do this unless maybe it is someone you are planning on dating? Seems a bit of overkill for a friend/coworker/acquaintance. I'm with JRZDefector. If I am suspicious enough to do a search on the person, I will probably just not continue the relationship.

You bet. Would be silly not to know what you can.

What exactly are you looking to find out? In pre-google days, would you have grilled everyone about a new friend?

No, it would never cross my mind to do that.

No, it never even occurred to me to google people in my social circle. I will admit to googling people I actually wanted information about, like school teachers, supervisors, and occasionally a coworker. But if someone googled me, they wouldn't find anything useful or interesting, if they found anything at all. I think that's the case with most people.
