Everytime I get a text, I can't just let it sit. I have to respond immediately. And I can't not respond even if there's not a question. So I'm always the last one to respond bcs I can't let a text sit read, but unanswered. I'm starting to develop a complex. It's stupid I know, but it's making me feel like an overeager teenager. Ugh. Help me learn to stop!

Please tell me that you are NOT responding (texting back) while driving. If it is that compelling, please put your phone in the trunk while you drive. Please, Please!
That might be a good start to weaning you from your phone addiction. After a 20 minute drive, you note that you are still OK and more ready to do it again.
I'm sure soon we will be seeing 12 step groups for phone use. It seems more addicting than most substances.

This +2. I like to turn the volume all the way down on my phone so I am not tempted to look at it while driving. When you hear that alert, it makes you want to look.
It is like an addiction. Every time I go somewhere on vacation or to an event I am amazed at the people who traveled all the way here to enjoy the sights or entertainment and are missing it all because they are absorbed in their phones. They could have saved a ton of money looking at the phone from their own houses.

Turn off the phone. Gawd, I really had never thought of that. I try not to have it on me at all times, to force a delay. And I try to keep it in my purse so I don't hear the vibrate. I guess I feel like I need the phone "on" though, in case the kids or my husband need something. It's the other random texts that drive me crazy! And it's a little of a double edge sword, bcs I know people generally expect quick responses with texting so if I leave a text sit for awhile (really only five or six minutes) I feel like I'm being rude….especially if I actually have the ability to answer…
So on the flip side…how do you feel if someone takes a long time to respond to texts?
I have to respond immediately.
It's stupid

This should do the trick: search the web for "Liz Marks Texting".
