My friend commented something like "how would 'They' get an entire upper middle class suburb to go along with that?" His friend said, "well, they are all Freemasons."
There are MANY people who believe the Sandy Hook shootings were a faked setup by our government to find an excuse to take away our guns, and if you do a search on the Politics and Other Controversies forum right here on City-Data, you will find some of them.

There are different versions of the New World Order theories, just as there are with the 9/11 conspiracy people. Some 9/11 conspiracy people believe that the government faked the whole thing with the planes and brought the towers down with explosives. Then there is another set of people who believe the towers were hollow and unoccupied for years, the people you saw on TV that day are computer-generated images and composites and actors, and that nothing about the attacks was real at all. And then there are the people who believe that the towers were destroyed by direct energy weapons pointed at them from outer space, also an act of the shadow government that runs the world.

There are not five or ten or one hundred people who believe these things. There are thousands.

My aunt periodically sends such stuff out over email. Her last one was about not using cell phones at the gas station because the ringer can carry static electricity and cause an explosion. I've responded with gentle rebuttals because my aunt is just the sweetest lady but got the "I figured people should know anyway just in case it's real after all."

Foolish and irrelevant? Sure, but no more so than the question asking if he had ever shot anyone. The not so funny comedian undoubtedly expected a pained denial, but he got something not nearly so forgettable.

You be the judge; the lizard question begins at about 2:30.

I just saw a weird fb post tonight. It was a video of someone trying to melt a piece of "processed cheese" (the square kind that comes wrapped in plastic) with a cigarette lighter.

Now, I'll agree that that stuff doesn't deserve to be called cheese, I think it tastes disgusting, and frankly I'm not even sure what it's made of.

But the point of this video was that, because it wouldn't melt when a flame was held to it, then clearly it does not belong in a person's digestive system.

I'm thinking it doesn't really matter what a flame does to a food, but rather, what does that food do inside the body?

My FB feed has a mix of people that include family members and old friends who are best described as lovable, well-meaning but ultimately ignorant and paranoid hicks, and friends from my adult life in major coastal cities who are best described as lovable, well-meaning but ultimately ignorant and paranoid SJW's.

The former will repost and push any article that says something like "OBAMA SIGNS H.R. 4323235631.12445, DECLARES MARTIAL LAW AND IS SENDING DELTA FORCES TO TAKE YOUR GUNS!" or "OBAMA SIGNS H.R. 6543443241.343245, MIDDLE CLASS AMERICANS NOW HAVE TO GIVE 60% OF THEIR INCOME TO UNDOCUMENTED MIGRANT WORKERS AND THUGS."

The latter will repost and push any article that says something like "ADORABLE NATIVE AMERICAN GIRL FORCEABLY REMOVED FROM LOVING FAMILY ON RESERVATION AND REHOMED WITH A BUNCH OF CULTURELESS WHITE PEOPLE" or "RURAL SCHOOL DISTRICT EXPELS VEGAN GENDER NON-BINARY TEEN WHO IS TRIGGERED BY THE COLOR BLUE FOR NOT EATING MEAT, BEING A GIRL, OR LOOKING AT BLUE THINGS!"

If I google any of the stories, they turn out to be total bunk; just sensationalist clickbait to play off of peoples' naivety...

And it's the damndest thing, because I'm pretty sure that I've melted processed cheese at least a few hundred times in my life...

Threads like this are funny as hell, but they sure make me glad I'm not on Facebook. Although I suppose it would make it easier for me to weed out any morons who somehow snuck into my circle of friends...

Yes, but did you do it with an actual flame?

Yeah, I worked at a restaurant and we had an open-flame broiler.
