In talking about winter weather preps, I was struck with a memory.

Many, many years ago, when Mom was helping me move from one apartment to another, she grabbed a novelty Sea World hard plastic drink cup. She said she was going to toss it because "it was just a novelty cup".

I think I was a little taken back but said to keep it!......................because such cups are useful when one needs to scrap ice from their windshield.

Others?

I hope my mom learnt some positive attitude from me. She grew up in a small town, is very judgmental at times, ungrateful & indulges in self pity. I try to motivate her to be more social & be grateful for whatever she has. Her life is not bad at all but she hardly enjoys it. So from time to time I have to remind her how lucky she has been in life.

I'm still hung up on using a plastic drink cup to scrape ice from a windshield. Does not compute.

Using the OP's story, my mom would have learned to recycle that plastic cup.
I scrape ice with an ice scraper.

My mom learned how to use a cell phone (sort of!), and how cable works.

I have taught my mom how to use her Roku about 12 times. Since Christmas.

Ice scrapers are 99 cents at the gas station and they work beautifully and store easily in the car door map pocket.

OP might be a hoarder?

Who the heck uses a plastic cup to scrape ice off a windshield when you can use a perfectly good plastic cassette case? I keep 6 of those in my car, one for each window.

This is T E X A S! Ice scrappers aren't items commonly held at the gas station and even if they are, when you are at home and your windows are covered with ice, anything away at the gas station is USELESS!

On the other hand, cups that sit on a shelf in the kitchen tend to stay there (unlike rarely used items in the glove compartment which run the risk of being moved for room for something else) are there when you need them. Not to say that smaller novelty cups aren't to be found in the car as well, but they are more of the emergency water supplies.

As far as how to use them to scrap ice? Just put the hard top edge against the ice and start shoving back and forth or in a whirling motion.

I have taught my mom nothing. She already knows it all.

This would be my answer as well, if my mom would have done the things I told her to do and didn't do the things I told her not to do just half the time her life would not be a train wreck today.
