My daughter is visiting and we went to lunch at a new restaurant. Pulling into the parking area, I hit a curb hard and when we finished lunch we discovered a flat on that same tire. I usually keep a phone book in the car, but apparently had removed it. We sat in the car awhile talking about what to do, then my daughter went back into the restaurant to get a number from the cashier. While she was talking with him 2 customers overheard the conversation and after paying their bill, they walked over to my car and asked if I had a spare?

In a few short minutes they had us ready to go. The spare needed a little air, so we got that and headed across town to a place to repair the tire. Turns out I'd ruined the tire when hitting the curb, so I bought 2 new tires, then we went home. The men who changed the flat would not accept pay. I'm so impressed by their cheerful helpfulnessl. I'm announcing that chivalry is alive and well in Oklahoma.

One thing I have really liked about living in the south is there always seems to be someone willing to help out when need be. And I always try to pay it forward

I'm pleased to hear this but not entirely surprised. I have friends in Oklahoma.

Good thing you weren't in California -- you'd have been on your own.

They probably still make them. The thing looks like a little spring antenna attached down by the wheels. You will hear it when it touches the curb.

You used to see a lot of them. I don't think I've seen one lately, but I don't pay much attention to cars.

It doesn't surprise me. I lived in Oklahoma for a few years. I saw things like that in action more than a few times.
