I wish I lived closer to my longtime friends. I couldn't say who my best friend is, but I have cherished friends of 40+ years, who I see only once in awhile. When I do, we just pick up where we left off.
Its funny. I really don't have one best friend, but multiple very good friends (or even multiple best friends). One is a teacher, so, even when I'm in town, I really only get to see him during the summer months. Another I see fairly frequently when in town, whether dining out or going to the gym. Others I don't see as frequently, but we all keep in touch via group texts, etc.
how often do you see/talk to your best friend (bff)? like someone who would be your best man or maid of honor at your wedding? this is minus family so if your bff = someone in your family then think of your first non-family bff
daily? weekly? couple times a week? every weekend? or just couple times a month?
the reason i ask is because my last bff (before i moved), we chatted almost every day because of work and just cause. we hung out every weekend.
now my new bff (since i moved), we chat quickly like a couple (2/3 times) a week and hang out like once or twice a month at the most
life situation is the same
I live in NJ and my best friend of 40 years lives in Florida now. She comes down with her kids for a week every summer, and I go down there in the winter. In between, it varies. Sometimes a few weeks will go by and I'll realize we haven't talked, so I'll call and say what's up. Other times, especially if one of us is going through an issue, we'll talk more often. But both of us have busy lives, and I am not one to chat on the phone if there's no "purpose" if you know what I mean...."What's new with you?" "Nothing. What's new with you?" Yuck, I hate that it is pointless.
To me the defining feature of best friends, is knowing the person is there for the reaching out, always, even if it's been a month since we spoke. To me she's like family. No maintenance or rules needed.
My best friend lives in another state. We talk at least once a week and see each other in person 4-5 times per year. She usually comes out to visit me once per year. This year we took a vacation together instead. Our parents live in the same town, so we see other when we go back to visit family. I think it would be much harder to maintain the friendship if we didn't have that in common.
We try to talk at least a couple of times a month and email each other frequently. She lives on the west coast and I am in the Midwest. The last time I was actually in her presence was in 2010 and there was zero awkwardness. She has been my best friend since the third grade, many many years ago.
I see her maybe 5-8xs a year if I am lucky. We live 2000 miles apart, so I think that is a gift.
We don't talk as much as I'd like. She's not big on texting and doesnt have facebook. She gets poor phone reception in the mountains where she lives.
I will see her this weekend. We usually have a four hour lunch with nonstop talking.
