Yeah, I didn't really consider the fact that they may have had a check bounce on them before. I guess it's just her...she is just not a very good person overall.
I actually would have taken her comment as a joke, as in, "now that we're going to Vegas, are you sure you want me to cash it or would you rather hold on to some gambling money?"
Or I would assume that she was concerned that several weeks had passed and she still hadn't cashed it and you might have forgotten about it. Not everybody balances their checkbook each month. There are a large amount of people (and small businesses) that rely on online banking to see how much money they have left in their account.
I would not take it as an insult under any circumstance unless it was delivered in a snarky or condescending manner.
Yes I've asked several different people if it is ok to cash a check.
If rent is due on the first and I am there doing repairs on the 27th, the tenant will often give me the rent check for the next month. I always ask if I should hold it until the first before I deposit it.
I ask only if a 3-4 weeks have gone by without depositing a check. I'll give them a heads up, apologize, and ask if it's ok to deposit.
Why would you hold a check 3-4 weeks? Cash it the next day.
