Yes I still send some Christmas cards out by mail. I'm a photographer and enjoy choosing a cover photo that fits the season and mailing cards to relatives and long-time friends that we never see just to stay in touch. The list keeps getting smaller due to death etc.
But one or two on the list it's hard to justify card cost and mailing when really all we need to say is "Still alive. Still married. Happy Holidays". But just thinking about writing that makes me smile. Should we do it?
Well I came home and my hubby had written that one, not quite as blunt as I would have. He added a few words in addition to: Still alive. Still married. Will be interested in the card we get back from one couple who always wait to get ours before sending theirs. Hoping that perhaps we've given up sending them one. They have been married, separated, back together and now ? who knows.
Idea: keep the fronts of pretty cards (any holiday or special day) and use them as postcards. I do it all the time when I just want to say a quick few words or to let someone know I was thinking of them at that particular time. Sometimes I return, as a postcard, the card front from a card that person has sent me! I doubt they would even remember it. Be sure to keep some less-expensive postcard stamps on hand.
I decided to post my Christmas card photo on Facebook next week with the sentiment stated above and a smiley face. That way people who aren't on the mailing list will see it and maybe get a laugh.
