Well, after a bad marriage followed by a questionable relationship I've been invited to a get-together come Saturday night. Pizza & Billiards. Still a little reluctant as I don't want to be surrounded with all "young" people - I'm in my early 50s and prefer close to my age. But hey, never know 'til you get out there and try, right? My therapist (Yes, I see a therapist!) has a sign in her office that says, "Each day, do something that scares you." The purpose being to conquer your fear. So, time to get out there and break the ice!

You gotta eat, so you might as well go and have some pizza.
Shooting pool can be fun... have you ever played?

Are you certain you will "be surrounded with all "young" people"? And why doe that worry you?
I have fun with younger-than-me people.

I love to shoot pool! I'm around younger people all the time, given my job. I guess I just prefer being around my age group when I'm off duty.

Go out & have fun. Don't have any high expectations from yourself or others. Just relax & you will be fine. You can also take a friend for company if you are afraid you wont fit in. Just make sure the host is ok with it.

If I had a dime for every time I've heard "Get out and socialize!" I'd be able to buy a Lamborghini. Hence, time to shed the old hermit!

Well, if you've been invited, then they want your company. And that's nice. Who knows, maybe they want to set you up with one of their parents LOL.

I hate that sign, BTW, about doing something that scares you every day. The last therapist I saw had one of those, too, and I hated it. Why would I want to sit down every day with my journal and think about things that scare me. And then plan to tackle one of them. So, I'd just as soon burn all of those frickin' signs. I think they're a recipe for how to feel bad every day.

Now, once a year maybe I could deal with. "Every year do one thing that scares you." That I could swallow.

Have fun playing billiards. And make a new sign. "Every day do something that makes you smile."
