The relatives want to get a group of us together in late June for a week at a beach house in Ocean City MD. It is just shocking how expensive beach houses are in Ocean City so the sister who is organizing the whole thing is working hard to get all the brothers, sisters and husbands and wives to participate and share the cost. If everyone participates there will be 8 adults and 6 kids all living in one house for a week.

There is four bedrooms and ten beds so some of us will be sleeping on the floor, on the sofa or doubling up in double sized beds. It's going to be tight.

It could be a great opportunity for lots of good food, drink and conversation or maybe lots of fights, little sleep and general conflict. We have never done this before.

If you and 13 other family members had a chance to share a beach house, would you be interested, and if so, what would happen?

Sure.
But I would get more than four bedrooms.

What would happen? We would have a blast, and most would get sunburned.

No, no, and hell no! The only person I'm on decent terms with is my mother and the most I can stand her is 3-4 days tops. I'd never sign up for a week of family giving me crap over how I love my different from their beliefs.

Do I get to choose the 14? If so, yes. If not, hell no.

I wouldn't do it.

My sister is renting a condo at the beach with her inlaws and I won't even drive down for a day trip. I think her feelings are hurt by my refusal, but dealing with family is not my idea of a pleasant vacation. I did come up with a decent reason for not going so she could tell her inlaws why we weren't going to be able to make it, but I'm sure she could tell I just didn't want to go.

It depends on the size of the house, and whether or not I would get grief for doing my own thing instead of always going with the group. Given the situation you described, hell no.

We stay in a beach house in the Outer Banks that is 3 levels with 8 bedrooms, two of which have bunk beds for kids. There's plenty of space for all of us to spread out comfortably. No problems at all.

I voted miserable instead of living hell - only because I don't imagine much yelling, screaming, or lack of sleep from my family. For me, personally, though - it'd be a living hell. That's way too many people to keep happy. Way too many people to be around. I wouldn't want to do that with just my mom and two remaining sisters - let alone cousins and in laws. If I'm at the beach, I'd want to relax and be on my time - no one else's. Parties and crowds - no. All the extra cooking, planning, cleaning, consensus gathering, considering everyone's feelings and schedule preferences. No. Stressful just thinking about it. Running upstairs, locking my door, and perching outside my window away from it all now!
