My dog has never eaten any money. But, he did eat the title to one of our cars. Nothing like a trip to the DMV to teach you to be more careful where you put stuff.
This is why I don't let dogs in our house, cats either (yes I know this happened in a car). It is MY house and I shouldn't have to edit my behavior because of some other living thing that's there that can't behave. If I want to leave $100 bills lying around, or my computer parts, or my phone, or medicine, ANYTHING, I will bloody well do so, and there better not be ANYTHING happen. That's my expectation and I'm sticking with it. I used to let cats live inside, but too many times of them getting into the food and me shouting to the wife "you better get this cat out of here before I put a bullet in its head" has me to where the cats aren't allowed in here either. Even the kids know better than to touch my stuff, I once spanked my 3 year old for touching the candy that was right in his line of sight, it seriously is my expectation that he's supposed to see it, want it, be tempted by it, but still not touch--because I said so. Anything that can't do that isn't allowed in here.
I'd stop leaving money out where the dog could get it
Dogs are the ultimate imitators of humans. If they see something humans consider important they treat it in a similar manner to the wya humans do. If the humans hide it the dogs do likewise.
It's one of the reasons dogs are so tender with babies (except golden retrievers that is). They see that humans are tender towards babies and act likewise.

I am, actually, as long as there aren't animals in the house. I don't want to deny my wife/2 children the joy of pets, but I have to be comfortable in my own house vs feeling like I'm on "guard duty" every single second. The only way that works is the animals stay outside and they are able to play with them there all they want to.

Are you saying if the human puts the money away, the dog will also put the money away instead of eat it?
