NO, you cannot say this when you do not even know why the father hit his son This is threatening, geez!
This is provocation, he will answer you "mind your own business, ' and rightfully so!
Just watch for repetitions.

This ^^^^^

That's a good point, I mean he smacked his son, parents have the right to discipline their kids, we do not know what the kid did? Maybe he was using drugs? Had sex with the neighbor's daughter? Do you know?

What if the smack was justified, it's possible, you know!

There's no good answer for that situation. But if you witness it again, you need to do something.

Maybe its a false hope but I like to think that an anonomous phone call to child services or the police or even the school would end up documented somewhere. With no actual person it probably wouldn't be acted on but the documentation would be there if there was ever another incident. Or give the school something to look out for.
IDK, just a thought.

I'm not sure you'd say that if your husband was beating you silly every night.

That coward voice or feeling was protecting you from harm.

Mind your own business.

you did the right thing, you just gotta mind your own business even though your moral compass is kicking your rear end.

look at it this way, if you could clone yourself into 10 million 'yous' and placed yourself in the 10 million worst areas in the country and the world, would this be the worst thing any of your 10 million clones would have seen? Not even close. You would witness 100x worse stuff, this wouldn't be a blip on a radar screen in the big scheme of things.

Also, even if the odds are that nothing would happen and this guy wouldn't retaliate, your mind thinks he would and your life would be miserable for what seems like an eternity, it might even compel you to move.

the 'benefit' you get out of turning this guy in is not even close to the turmoil you would go thru worrying about turning him in and what he might do in the future.
