I recently had to sit and listen to some guy spout off about how he'd never seen so many women waiting to get their oil changed and wouldn't we all rather be getting manicures. Um, no.

But I have a lot of male friends, and I find the whole "it's just locker-room talk" point of view with regard to Trump's language to be incredibly pernicious. I'm very close with my male friends - who include former Marines, world travelers, entrepreneurs, tech geeks, working class guys and upper class guys - and I have been with them when they were at their drunkest and had no filters and said some pretty un-PC things. But boasting about sexual assault has never been even hinted at. "It's just locker-room talk" when it's said by someone who is of a very low quality of character, not because they happen to be male. I am surrounded by an amazing group of friends, and this is the first time I ever felt like I had to defend the honor of the male portion of those friends.

Locker room talk also isn't about what kind of groping you can get away with as well. Locker room talk to me is just along the lines of a couple of guys talking and one might mention something like "did you see the cans on that one".... and that is bad enough, but it's well below the line of groping and being entitled to thinking you can grope a woman. That whole grab them by their "P" thing was pretty horrifying and I don't recall ever talking like that with a group of men or hearing other men talk like that. IDK.... Normal average everyday decent men would really be taken back but such comments.

In this forum, almost everything involving men is a misconception. Does that answer your question?

As a woman I've heard this many times, even multiple times on City Data:

All feminists hate men.

Do I believe that myself? No, I don't. I consider myself a feminist and I actually like most men better than I like women. But some men (not all of them) have control problems, so when I refuse to be controlled, first I'm a feminist (said derogatorily) and then I'm like all other feminists, who hate men.

That women, especially older women, all are crazy enough to vote next month for a woman as president (and apparently people think these women are stupid enough to vote for any woman no matter her qualifications or platform or potential, no matter how dirty she gets or how corrupt she is). Electing a female president will have to wait till we have the right candidate.

I think there are a lot of very smart women out here who will NOT be that stupid. I am really tired of being told that as an woman I am expected to vote for a female presidential candidate, no matter how dumb and wrong that decision would be.

I'm not getting a sense of urgency to vote a woman in. I got that more with Obama, I felt a subconscious pull to vote for him because he was a black man... IDK... I don't think the vibe to vote her in because she's a woman is a strong, at least to me...

Vote your conscience, whatever course that may take........

I don't know who's pressuring you, but I'm a political junkie and have watched the campaigns of all candidates closely, since the primaries, watched most of the debates, read tons of stories, talked with others, participate in a political forum containing various parties....I've not read anything at all pressing the fact the "vote because she's a woman" thing. Of course we all recognize the fact that if she wins, it will be a perk, since it's a good thing to have someone other than a white male always representing the country. But I agree, it should be the right person. Unfortunately, all the Republicans had to do was choose someone who was good looking, knew a little something about the issues, and hadn't molested anyone....and they didn't do it. So Clinton is the only game in town. She is favored to win about 85%. Trump is almost certainly going to lose, unless there's some sort of big event that happens beforehand. (Hence his "the election is rigged!" meme he's stating repeatedly every day, I guess so he can save face and claim he would have won.)

One thing about women I hear sometimes is the tale that they're bad drivers. I believe that statistics show that men get in more accidents or turn in more claims.

When I've said that before, someone said, "Maybe. But older women get in way more accidents." They just have to narrow it down to something, so that their belief can continue to be justified (by ignoring the blanket statement that women are bad drivers).

One man said to me, "But you'll accept that what I've seen...I've seen more women who are bad drivers?" I reply that I have to accept that they've NOTICED that more women seem to be bad drivers to him. That is, if a male driver is driving erratically, he wouldn't make note of his gender. He's just a driver driving erratically. But if it's a woman, he NOTICES and makes note of the fact that the driver is female. It feeds into his preconception.

People have their preconceptions, and I don't think they change much.

I had an older and very conservative friend launch into a long diatribe at me about how I was naive to think men didn't talk that way and PC culture is to blame (and quite a few other things - apparently I deserve socialism). It was several paragraphs in comments and then several links to weird alt-right sites. I didn't even respond.

But here's the thing - you talk about "normal average everyday decent men" but I have some friends who are NOT that at all. Hell, one is currently in prison, and while he can be very very raunchy, he would never in a million years joke about sexual assault. He doesn't have a PC bone in his body and he screws up at life pretty frequently, but he does get the basic concept that women are human beings who deserve basic respect.

The stuff Donald Trump was joking about is stuff that is beyond the pale for all but a very small slice of men. I really hate when people try to normalize it in the name of defending Trump. The people who talk that way and commit such acts are sadists and narcissists.

I bought a sewing machine one time and my wife was with me. The old lady at the register told my wife to have fun with her new sewing machine. My wife wouldn't even know how to turn it on. I guess guys don't sew lol
