I've never cared much for tattoos, and would never get one myself, but it's never really bothered me to see other people get them (in moderation).
But recently my 74-year-old mother decided it would be cool to have one and it seems like I'm the only one who's not wild about the idea. What can I say? I'm not thrilled with the image of Mom spending time in a tattoo parlor which she herself described as borderline scary looking. And yet all of her 70-something friends, not to mention my brother's 30-something friends think it's "so awesome" that she would do this.
Guess that makes me an "old man" prematurely!
Hahaha, I am 58. and I got a tattoo in October. It is a mommy and a baby elephant, on my upper arm, and it has meaning for my daughter and I, who got the same tattoo. It was an experience. While he was decorating my arm, I asked the tattoo artist how long he had been doing this, and he said, "Well, I started when I was in prison, and I've been out about five years, so it's a little longer than that." He apparently learned his single-needed feathering technique behind bars, and they used to make their tattoo machines with motors taken from Sony Walkmans. The things you learn when you ask someone a simple question.
I'm not a fan of most tattoos, and ironically enough, I have one. I just see so many people with way way too much ink. It's not even really a way to stand out and be different anymore, it's the other way around now, if you have no ink you're the rebel. LOL.
I've heard stories of people doing all kinds of weird stuff with tats. For the ones without a faint heart, you can google image search of a guy with his entire penis and parts of is torso tatted up to look like a dragon. I couldn't imagine the time, money and pain he must have gone through for that completely stupid tattoo. There's no accounting for taste in this world.
