It wasn't Christmas, but my youngest son at the time was about 8 or 10 years old. He came home from school with a small package and gave it to me. He was so proud and excited watching me open it. It was a ceramic head of a woman about 8 inches tall. She had a glittery hat, gaudy hoop earrings and she had a pretty face.
Our son had won it in a contest and he was SO DAMNED PROUD of being able to win it for me, his mom. It was SO kitsch and I absolutely loved it and still do!
(definition of Kitsch: a German word that's been adopted into English, excessively garish or sentimental art).
My hubby and I giggled about it later that evening and hung it proudly in our bathroom off our bedroom. When we moved, my "lady" was carefully wrapped and we hung it on our new bathroom wall. We still love that "lady" because of our sweet memories from when our son was young.
Probably old topic, but guys, what was the best someone ever made to you? (for reference, please also state your age and occupation)
I absolutely LOVED a baby doll I got when I was little. It was the size of a real baby, and it was soft, like a real baby. I loved it and would hug on it and take it everywhere with me.
I also loved a huge blue stuffed poodle I got. I would hug on it. It was so soft, and I thought it was beautiful. It made a striking image under the tree on Christmas morning. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I saw it. My sister got a pink one.
Those were the 1950s years, when things were more traditional.
It was 1990 and I was living in South Carolina; my dad and siblings in New York.
I'd been fired from my job in November (boss and I did not get along - long story) and while I was on unemployment, didn't have the money to travel to be with my family. My sister surprised me - she paid my airfare and I was able to go and spend Christmas and New Years.
I think the biggest surprise of it - and now I'm tearing up as I post this - my dad was kinda depressed that I couldn't make it home; he had no idea that I was coming. When I stepped out from nowhere and said "Howdy", he was so happy to see me we both almost cried! That was the best Christmas present I ever had in my life!
Unfortunately, it would be the last time I'd see my dad well. Several weeks later he suffered a massive stroke. I moved back home for good to help care for him.
Had a dog who I did not know was pregnant surprise me with two newborn puppies on Christmas Eve one year. Maybe not the best present but the most surprising one.
