I actually find it pretty rude to just start walking through someone's house. I have a very nosey friend who did this the first time she came to my apartment when I moved out on my own. Literally, walked pass me and into my bedroom. Who does that? I also find asking if people want a "tour" to be pretty pretentious. The wanna be hawty tawtys aunt and uncle on DH's side asked me once if I wanted a tour, and I politely declined lol..
I hope no one asks for a tour of my house because it's a mess. Ha ha. When I go to someone's house, I do appreciate a tour if the owners offer, but I certainly won't ask for one.
This thread reminded me of something that happened many years ago. When older relatives came to visit when I was all moved into a place, not the house I mentioned before, they went to the kitchen and started opening all the cabinets and looking inside. I was kind of thinking that was rude because I would never do that and I didn't like it when they did that, but then I thought maybe people do that in the kitchen and it's okay? It wasn't like the bedroom.
