I don't celebrate a "holiday" that exists solely to make people spend money, not to mention the expectation that if you don't "celebrate" this made-up BS holiday with your SO you're somehow lacking as a partner. I mean, it's brilliant manipulative marketing, but nothing more than that.

It is a Hallmark holiday. Hubby and I haven't celebrated in 20 years. He bought me tulips one year and I had no idea why. When I realized it was Valentines Day I just told him love the flowers, hate the holiday. We haven't celebrated since.

Exactly!

I deliberately do not buy anything on made-up holidays but love to surprised loved ones with random gifts on random days because it is unexpected.

To me, the notion and the emotions seem more sincere and valuable.
