3 here!

A niece (it hasn't clicked with her yet!), and 2 cousins (hasn't clicked with them yet either!)

But there were other reasons for the distancing, but all it was awaiting, in all 3 cases, was a big, heavy straw to break the camel's back!

How about you? If not lost, how about mildly or severely impacted?

No.

My friends and relatives are good people despite a poor political choice. Which I'd venture to guess a good portion are already regretting. And I'm not going to rub salt in an open wound either. Because friends don't do that.

I've lost a couple, but not because of their political views, per se. Rather, because they became openly insulting and abusive of anyone who believes differently from them.

No. I love and respect my family and friends, including our differences. I would consider it a weakness in myself if I couldn't tolerate our differences.

I agree with this completely. People make these choices based on their life experiences and I don't expect my friends or family to feel the same way I do about things.

No one I cared about overly much. The people who became patently offensive were all people I wasn't close to and already just communicated with over - I <edit>sm just unfriended them (we're talking like 3 people). Other people who are vocal about strongly differing views are mostly just old - I let them run their mouths as long as it isn't on my personal page. My family (except for my mother) is pretty good about boundaries, and I've always had friends of differing political views. It's never been a problem.

I have, however, changed my views of some people after they posted or liked graphic jokes about running over protesters. If you're an adult with even the vaguest understanding of what a vehicle can do to a human body, you should not find that funny.

Frankly the glee expressed here is disturbing. I do have friends who have lost relationships over this election. They aren't smug and gleeful about it.

Yep. Some people think it is the end of the world as we know it. They just don't have perspective.

Interesting topic.

<snip>

I didn't lose anybody because with some people I just avoid the topic of politics. My friends/relatives are partially very extreme one side or another.Some force their opinion on me which I choose to respect and try to not get into it. It's all good.

No, but we essentially drifted apart over the 2008 election, so there was no real chance for any kind of rekindling over this one - since it seems the divisions have deepened. It is too bad .. they are incredibly intelligent and very good people but quite dense and adamant (in my opinion) when it comes to the subject of politics. We could 'avoid' all deliberately initiated, politically oriented discussions but that is uncomfortable - like walking on eggshells since things can come up innocently in the course of normal conversation or be taken the wrong way when nerves are on edge - so we just avoid each other now.
