Very sorry you had to relive this. Very strange they contacted you after decades of not communicating.
I too wonder if a death bed confession.

I'm sorry they contacted you. Take a deep breath and know his ability to hurt anyone else is at an end. Treat yourself kindly as you did nothing to earn that abuse and today it's over.

Having a person who abused you die without ever having acknowledged what they did to you as wrong can be very hard to deal with. A very close family member abused me when I was 15. He died when I was in my 20s, married, and had a child of my own and hadn't seen or spoken to him since. It left such an unfinished feeling... people do not realize how short life is and if they did something to hurt someone, they should make amends before it's too late. Of course, some people are free from conscience and it never occurs to them to do that.

I'm sorry that you were hurt.

Maybe the family thought it would help to let you know he was dead. Everyone thinks differently.

I second this. OP, its awful you had to relive this, do nor feel any aversion to feeling good someone who hurt you like this as a child is no longer on Earth. They are not, but you are! I hope it gives you some peace, and you spend the life you have in good spirits.
