What would make you feel better, OP? You thought enough of him to send a generous graduation gift, so do you want to send a wedding gift or not?

Since you are declining the invitation, you are not obligated to send a gift, but I think you want to, or you’re afraid you’ll feel guilty if you don’t. If it were me, I would choose a modest gift (under $100.) from their registry and call it a day.

I am going to send a gift so as not to hurt his parents’ feelings.

Yup. That’s what I’d do.

Funny how people never "forget" to send invitations, annoucements and save-the-date cards. Does your stepdaughter's stepson ever send you birthday or Christmas cards--you know, something where he doesn't expect a gift?

I'd have the courtesy to let them know I'm not coming and that's it.

I know how you feel. I’ve stopped sending money to my grandchildren after the age of 18, because they do not acknowledge it, nor do they ever remember my birthdays. It’s time the kids and grandkids start thinking of me more. I won’t be around forever.

In OPs case, she thinks highly of the boy’s mother, so will send a token gift because of that. This will make her feel better than if she did not. It is what I would do also.
