Thanks. I have made friends at the gym (people I've met for drinks and the like outside the gym). Some people are clearly friendly- they come up, initiate conversations and their body language is friendly. 99% of the people at the gym are either nice/normal or otherwise don't cause a problem.
The Coat Inquisitor just doesn't seem friendly- he seems annoyed when he speaks, as though saying hello were the same as having a root canal. I don't know why he bothers to speak if it's that painful for him.
I'm a guy.
He may be socially awkward. I've known people like that. I have a relative like that. He's a good person with a good heart, but he has no friends. He's just odd and says inappropriate things sometimes. He makes a joke out of just about anything. He's also very smart and is a kind of a know it all (he really does know a lot; he has a high IQ and remembers anything he's ever read or heard). So people tend to avoid him. His social skills are lacking. When he comes to visit, I may have made the place look nice and cleaned the kitchen and hung a new picture. But he'll always zero in with a criticism like "How long you going to leave that box sitting there?" Always. He doesn't mean anything by it. That's the way he is. But it's irritating.
So the Coat Inquisitor is still at it. EVERY SINGLE DAY he keeps saying, "You didn't wear a coat today?"
I figure that my options are:
1. Totally ignore the statement.
2. Say something like, "John, one of your really good traits is that you're so tuned into people and pay attention to them. I don't even notice what other guys are wearing."
3. Go up to him, while he's working out (the gym can get kind of warm), and say, "John, you're not wearing a coat!"
Thanks. I chose my screen name because it sounds nice and harmless. If it were "Thor" or the like, it could cause a different reaction.
There's a good deal of room between puppiesandkittens and Thor. But hey, what do I care...I love both puppies and kittens. Maybe not kittens so much actually. Furry little demons.
"Always such an interesting question, I don't really have anything new to add."
He doesn't get it! SHUT UP, dude!
