On first thought, YES...unless maybe if it was THIS circumstance:
the mother-to-be has NO mother anymore (due to death, etc.) & considers her father like her mom & dad & they've always been close so he can hold her hand during this momentous occasion & be in the area that doesn't see any part of the lower 1/2 of her body.
I would not be creeped out if my father asked me to be in the delivery room with me. I would simply assume he was excited about the baby and wanted to be as involved as possible.
That being said, my father threw up watching my own birth so I don't anticipate he'll be watching the birth of his grandkids. Maybe in the room, but watching the birth no. I think he left to get a cheeseburger when my younger brother was coming out.
In case it's still relevant: Depends on where the dad stands and what the situation is like. It's creepy to be watching from the business end, but I've known people who have had their dads in the delivery room. I didn't want anyone but my husband (and the midwife) at the delivery, so I can't relate to wanting people in the room. But I don't speak for every woman.
Its funny because a lot of people are very comfortable having people in the delivery room. Some aren't. But a lot of people don't think of it as sexual or embarrassing or gross and would be comfortable with having family members in the room.
Would I? No, I wouldn't want a crowd. But if I was close with my father and he would be a good support for me, then it would be fine.
I do want to add that I don't think people should ask if they could be in the delivery room. I think thats an invitation only situation. If you are invited, cool. But don't ask.
For me it happened so fast that they were behind a curtain and I didn't want even my husband watching! But I also was freaked out and excited so he was there as well as my parents and brother...behind the curtain. My baby was premature too. Weird yes, creepy no.
