My wifes sister in-law (40) who has absolutely no life of her own, will call her mother, mommy (she is 70). Baffles the heck out of me. Then she will complain that they don't give her respect and always try to push their ways on her.

Opinions. Do you know anyone of that does this?

The stbx' family. At Sunday dinners, my MIL called her husband daddy, my stbx, bub and my DIL sister. The FIL called his wife mother and both siblings used daddy and mama. I thought it was weird.

She might have a few friends from work. Is VERY clingy on family members. In the 20 yrs that I have known her, have never met a date of hers. Has never had a boyfriend in that time.

Default 40 year old calling her mother mommy

Oh My Goodness......my husband's family all call their mother MOMMY and it freaks me out. My husband does it from time to time and it seems so babyish to me. He has two sisters, one is 54 the other is 46 and they not only call her "Mommy", whenever "Mommy" gets sick they are both staying overnight there with her. "Mommy" recently lost "Daddy" due to complications from a heart attack years ago and I kept my opinions to myself all throughout his sickness and didn't say too much but when the 46 year old started talking OUT LOUD to now deceased Daddy...I had to say something. The whole thing just totally creeps me out. Nuff said...I hate to be so opinionated which in the long run doesn't mean jack crapola when you think about it. Mommy is now 80 and in better shape than I ever hope to be...LOL...Oh, it was "Happy Birthday Dear MOMMY"...last weekend. UGH

Perhaps it does sound a little unusual, but then, how many grown adults do you know who still call their grandmother, granny or nana or something along those lines? Why is it acceptable with grandparents but not parents?
