Occasionally, but most of it relies on stereotyping.
My mom is a natural redhead with freckles and people always guess an Irish heritage for her, but she's actually Latin (Spanish & Italian).
My sister is blond & tall and people guess her to be German, which she is, but of course she is also half Latin.
I am brunette with a fair olive complexion and people may guess Italian, but never Spanish because in Cali they think mistakenly Spaniards look like Mexicans, and never German because they stereotype them as blonds. Most of the time people ask me what I am because they cannot tell.
